Mission
The mission of Family Promise of Hawaiʻi is to transform the lives of families with children in Hawaiʻi facing homelessness by providing housing, resources, and support.
About Us
Founded in 2005, Family Promise of Hawaiʻi (FPH) provides innovative, compassionate, and effective services to prevent and end homelessness for families with children.
Young children are at the greatest risk of experiencing homelessness. Children under age 1 are more likely to experience homelessness than people of any other age, followed by children ages 1-5. In Hawaiʻi, an estimated 1 in 30 young children experience homelessness annually.
FPH is proud to have its statewide headquarters in the Kukui Center. FPH provides several core programs and services:
Interim housing: FPH’s interim housing sites on Oʻahu provide emergency shelter for families experiencing homelessness. At these facilities, each family has their own room where they can sleep, study, and get back on their feet. FPH serves families of all sizes and compositions, including single mothers, single fathers, two-parent households, and multigenerational families.
Emergency rental assistance: FPH provides several types of emergency rental assistance, including assistance to prevent families from becoming homeless or entering the shelter system, assistance to help families quickly transition from homelessness to permanent housing, and long-term assistance to help the most vulnerable families sustain housing.
Case management and family support: FPH provides one-on-one case management in all programs to help families navigate their unique challenges and design individualized solutions. FPH also includes topics such as financial education, workforce development, tenancy training, and many other areas. FPH partners closely with other organizations to provide additional wraparound services.
Community engagement: FPH engages the community to help families build skills and social capital and provide meals, supplies, and other donations. Volunteers run weekly events for families, including fun and educational activities for children and skill-building workshops for adults. Volunteers also provide meals several nights a week. Community supporters provide supplies and other in-kind donations, along with tax-deductible monetary gifts that serve families in need.
